Commercial Rain (Rub-A-Dub Mix)
Baggy favourites remixed by the Forgemasters.
I was round at a friend's place and we were talking about records. He asked what was in my collection. I said, uh, dunno really, random stuff.
Realising that I couldn't describe what was in those boxes or what joined it all together gave me an idea for a new blog.
The rules are simple:
I have no idea how this is going to turn out. Or how long I can keep it up for. I'll keep at it till it becomes a pain.

“Tyree Cooper, the producer. Awesome, super duper trooper”. It’s poetry I tell you.
From Sueno (The Essential Mediterranean DanceTrax) - there was only one track I could pick off this compilation. Well maybe two if you count the excellent Sueno Latino. But for me it’s all about the Grand Piano. A hulking great cheeseball of a track. But a guaranteed winner every time.
To the untrained ear it could sound a bit like a House Music Jive Bunny. But I totally love this track. Especially the break at 2.24ish - total devastation.

Pop-hip-hop from 1994. I have absolutely no idea where this came from or how it ended up in my collection. It must have got mixed up at some point. I suspect it might have come from Tom my old flatmate (I don’t know why apart from Honky appear to be from Doncaster and he’s a Yorkshire chap).
It’s quite jolly though. In a De La Soul meets J5 done by some Brits kind of a fashion.

From 2006 when I was buying half decent records. I could have been so on the cutting edge of Shoreditch Balearica ;-)

Fantasia - Cosmic Baby (from Thinking About Myself)
If I remember correctly Cosmic Baby was one of those ‘classically trained’ genius types, which might explain some nice piano and synth arrangements. But the shitty weak trance beat isn’t the product of any kind of genius.
Why does music like this exist again?

90 Degrees Of Soul (The Striking Dub) - Myakka City
From a compilation called Planet Jazz. I hate a lot of ‘jazz’ but I don’t totally hate this. Perhaps it’s a little beige, but I’m not too ashamed to have it in my collection. The remix was done by A Man Called Adam whose work I like (most of the time).

We Will Become Silhouettes - The Postal Service
At last, something a bit more current. It’s hardly new, but at least it came out this millennium. Although I must have heard this a gazillion times I don’t think I’ll ever truly get sick of it. A wonderful wonderful record.

From the album System 7. As the eagle-eyed will have no doubt spotted there’s a bit of a ‘filing error’ here (the first of many) - it’s a double vinyl, I’ve only got one sleeve and it’s got the wrong disc in it. Whoops.
I guess I ended up with this after exploring things in the halo around The Orb and Primal Scream (post Screamadelica) - and ended up at the doors of Steve Hillage and System 7.

Can I Kick It - A Tribe Called Quest
I mentioned that I used to DJ in the back room of a dodgy disco club. The club was called the Funky Worm. This was a back room classic.
